Wilson earns win No. 100 at Canner Duals

South Western went 4-1 at Saturday's Canner Duals at Biglerville, good for a second-place finish.
The Mustangs won their first three matches in pool play before defeating the host Canners in the semifinals. In the finals, the Mustangs met a talented Saucon Valley squad and lost, 63-12.
Owen Wherley led South Western with a 5-0 record on the day. Derek Wilson, who won his 100th career match, and Gage Thomas each went 4-1..
The host Canners finished the day 2-3, defeating YAIAA opponents West York and Northeastern while losing to Saucon Valley, South Western and Red Land. The Canners received perfect 5-0 marks from Scott Cooper and Nate Newberry.
In a bit of controversy, Delone Catholic dropped a 42-38 match to McCaskey, but the final outcome was not determined on the mat.
With the score tied at 30, the Red Tornado sent out a pair of female wrestlers at 138 and 145 pounds. The Squires' male wrestlers, unable to wrestle females because of policy implemented by the Harrisburg Diocese, had to forfeit the two weights and trail 42-30 with one bout remaining.
The Diocese of Harrisburg passed a co-ed participation policy in June 2014 that states that no Catholic school, parish, Catholic youth organization or club athletes shall wrestle someone of the opposite sex.
The Squires received a 5-0 effort from Damian Rodriguez and a 4-1 finish from Brian Shermeyer.
West York finished the event, 1-4, with its lone victory against Northeastern. Sam Sterner led the way with a 4-1 mark while Ryan Narber made his season debut with a 3-0 record.
Northeastern finished 0-5 on the day.
ELCO Duals: Susquehannock went 4-1 at the ELCO Duals, finishing in third place out of 10 teams.
The Warriors beat Pequea Valley, 47-32, Schuylkill Haven, 40-34, Palmyra, 41-31, and Upper Dauphin, 49-22, with their lone loss coming to the champion, Newport, 58-15.
The Warriors were led by 4-1 performances by Joey Romjue, Jack Allred and Xander Holloway.
