Roundup: 3 Mustangs vying for King of Mountain

South Western's wrestling's contingent had a quality day on the mats at the King of the Mountain tournament at Central Mountain High School in Mill Hall. Three Mustangs advanced to Saturday’s quarterfinals.

The first wrestler to make it through was 126-pounder Derek Wilson, the No. 4 seed in the tournament. Also joining Wilson is fifth-seeded 145-pounder Owen Wherley and 10th-seeded 160-pounder Gage Thomas.

Wilson advanced with a first-round bye and a second-round technical fall. He faces Boiling Springs’ Tristan Hanshaw in Saturday’s quarterfinals.

Wherley advanced to the quarterfinals with a 4-2 decision in the second round against Boyertown’s Chris Berry. Wherley will face Bethlehem Catholic No. 4 seed Stephen Maloney.

Thomas worked a 12-5 first-round win against Bethlehem Catholic’s Ryan Zeiner before pinning Boiling Springs’ Travis Wickard in the second round. He’ll face Northern York’s Jonathan Ross in the quarters.
