New Oxford, Delone win YAIAA doubles titles


New Oxford's Dagney Markle and Kamdyn Balko capped a dramatic day by holding on to win the YAIAA doubles tennis championship. Markle and Balko needed three sets to take home the league title in Class 3A, pulling out a 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 victory against Dallastown's top-seeded team of Christie Friedrich and Madi Reed Tuesday at South Western High School.

Markle has assembled an impressive few days, winning the YAIAA singles title to claim the first gold in tennis for New Oxford on Saturday.

Markle and Balko advanced to the title match by defeating Central York's Mady Mummert and Kara Holland, 6-4, 6-2, earlier in the day. Friedrich and Reed defeated Dallastown teammates Meghan Salaga and Taylor Jones, 6-1, 6-1. Friedrich and Reed had dropped a combined four games in their three matches before the back-and-forth league title match.

In the league's Class 2A doubles final, Delone Catholic's Alyssa and Ellie Neudecker earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Kennard-Dale's Brooke Siebert and Brianna Miller.

Alyssa and Ellie Neudecker, the top-seeded team in the 2A bracket, defeated York Suburban's Liv Pindzola and Samantha Clancy, 6-2, 6-1, to reach the final. Siebert and Miller defeated Biglerville's Morgan Orndorff and Mackenzie Bender, 7-5, 6-2, to reach the final.
