Dallastown's depth sinks West York

The West York girls' swim team won all but two events, including all three relays, but a deep Dallastown team held on to edge the Bulldogs, 89-81, on Tuesday evening.

West York had been looking for its first win against Dallastown in program history. The Bulldogs boast a stacked lineup this season, with returning GameTimePA all-stars Maelyn Elder, Meghan French and Claudia Keller. They're joined by University of Georgia commit Courtney Harnish, ranked as the nation's top swimming recruit, along with some fresh faces including Maddi Stoner and Tesia Thomas.

Still, it wasn't enough for the Bulldogs to overcome the powerhouse Wildcats. Dallastown was able to counter West York's success at the top of the score sheets by filling up the bottom. West York had no more than two swimmers score points in any race.

Araby Marston won the 100 breaststroke for the Wildcats, and Morgan Merrifield won the 50 free. Both girls swam on the second-place 200 free relay. Marston also swam on the runner-up 200 medley relay, and Merrifield swam on the second-place 400 free relay.

Jena Woods, Isabella Wise and Lindsay O'Rourke were among the Dallastown swimmers to post multiple top-three finishes.

Harnish won her two individual events in convincing fashion, winning the 100-yard butterfly by more than eight seconds (55.33) and the 500 freestyle by nearly 14 seconds. She anchored the winning 400 free relay and swam the butterfly leg of the victorious 200 medley relay.

Keller won the 200 IM and the 100 backstroke, and swam on the medley and 400 free relays. French won the 200 freestyle and joined the two freestyle relays. Thomas won the 100 free and swam the medley and 200 free relays.

Meanwhile, Dallastown's boys cruised to a 133-37 victory.
