Monday's top performers: Newman shines in shootout


South Western softball player Gabriella Newman earned the top performer spot for Monday in the YAIAA, as she had four hits, including a double and triple, three runs scored and three RBIs to help the Mustangs edge Red Lion, 12-11, in 11 innings.

In the same game, Taylor Radziewicz led the Lions' offense with five hits in six trips to the plate with two home runs, a double and two RBIs in the loss.

Dover softball player Natalie Cutright collected her 100th career hit in the Eagles' 11-1 win in six innings against West York.

Boys' lacrosse

South Western's Carson Perry scored six goals in the 19-2 win against Chambersburg. His teammate Sam Slater added two goals and handed out three assists. ...Eli Doyle and Jacob Norton led York Catholic's attack with five goals apiece in the Fighting Irish's 17-11 win against Eastern York. Tanner Yanick dished out four assists to complement his two goals.

Boys' volleyball

York Suburban's Kaleb Ansell racked up 54 assists as the Trojans downed Manheim Central in five games, 25-15, 27-25, 17-25, 19-25, 15-2.

Softball

Central York's Rachel Butler picked up another win from the pitcher's circle with five strikeouts in the 10-1 win over Spring Grove. However, the pitcher did most of her damage at the plate with two doubles and four RBIs. ...Fairfield's Courtney Harbaugh and Laikyn Boring threw a combined no-hitter against York Catholic in a 21-0 onslaught that lasted three innings. Ryleigh Bolyard went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs for the Green Knights, while Gena Eiker had two hits with a home run and three RBIs.

Girls' lacrosse

Susquehannock's Gena Speights scored five goals and made an assist in the Warriors' 17-5 win over Cumberland Valley. Emma Stiffler added a goal herself and registered five assists for Susquehannock.

Baseball

Biglerville's Chase Long was saddled with the loss as the Canners fell to Delone Catholic 3-2, but the pitcher baffled the Squires hitters for most of the game and racked up 12 strikeouts. ... Hanover's Kyle Krout went a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and two driven in as the Nighthawks soared over York County Tech, 10-4. Hunter Martz added a triple, a run scored and one RBI for Hanover. ... Eastern York's Colby Shimmel had another masterful day on the mound as he rang up 14 strikeouts in the Golden Knights' 4-3 win against York Suburban.
