Brenner to take over as Hanover Athletic Director

The Hanover Public School District will soon have a new athletic director.

The district's board of directors approved Kurt Brenner as the district's new athletic director at this morning's meeting. Brenner has been the Hanover High School wrestling coach since 2013 and will continue to coach the Nighthawks.

Michael Bauer, who had been the full-time athletic director since July 2014 after multiple stints as the interim athletic director, stepped down on Oct. 26.

"We had an exceptional internal candidate that applied," HPSD Supt. John Scola. "Kurt was enthusiastic, he was already coaching two sports and we felt we really had the opportunity to really capitalize by keeping him, hopefully, for the long-term."

The other sport Brenner had been coaching was middle school football. He will no longer coach that team, and he will also leave his post as a middle school health and physical education teacher.

"I know the time commitment is something that will definitely change, but I'm just excited for the opportunity to have an impact in all sports, not just one," Brenner said.

Brenner will make the transition to athletic director once the district has hired a new teacher to fill his teaching position, Scola said, adding that the district will take its time to find a great teacher who is also willing to coach. At that point, Scola hopes Brenner will solidify the position for an extended period of time.

"We really had two goals, one was to stabilize the athletic director position," Scola said. "The other was to stabilize the wrestling program, and we're excited because we think he can do both."
