Central York, Dallastown knocked out of District 3 team tennis tourney

Cumberland Valley's top doubles team of Evelyn Maran and Vaishnavi Datta rallied past Central York's Sarah Donner and Sophie Brink to give the Eagles a 3-2 victory in the quarterfinals of the District 3 Class AAA team tennis tournament on Tuesday at Hershey Racquet Club.

Donner and Brink won the first set 6-3 before Maran and Datta rallied to win the second set, 6-1. With the teams sitting in a 2-2 tie after the other four matches finished, Maran and Datta took the third set in a 7-5 tiebreaker to give the third-seeded Eagles the victory against the sixth-seeded Panthers.

Central's Yvonne Peters-Washington and Maddison Mummert won their singles matches in straight sets. The Eagles' Catherine Miller won at No. 3 singles and the team of Michaela Svobodova and Juliett Michel won at No. 2 doubles for the Eagles' other victories.

Central's team season ends with a record of 12-2.

Cumberland Valley advances to Wednesday's semifinal against No. 10 seed Hempfield, which rolled past Dallastown, 3-0, after sweeping singles action.

Dallastown's No. 2 doubles pairing of Ella Marston and Anisha Venkatesh won the lone set for the YAIAA Division I Champs, leading the Hempfield doubles team of Brittany Mumma and Sophie Granbois, 7-6 (3), 2-5 when No. 2 singles completed.

Amanda Hagino led the Black Knights with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Christie Friedrich at No. 1 singles. The Wildcats' season concludes with a record of 13-2.
