YAIAA doubles: Seven of eight seeded teams advance to semifinals
A day after winning the YAIAA Class AAA tennis title, Central York's Yvonne Peters-Washington kept up the momentum on the first day of the doubles tournament.
The top-seeded team of Peters-Washington and Jenn Elder won their first two matches in straight sets, dropping just one game Tuesday at South Western.
Next up for the Panthers duo is a rematch of sorts for Peters-Washington. Her YAIAA singles championship opponent — New Oxford's Dagney Markle — advanced to the doubles semifinals with her partner Brooke Moyer. The Colonials team opened the doubles tournament with a 6-0, 6-1 win against Spring Grove's Victoria Blymier and Brenna Gutshall. They followed that with a second-round upset of the fourth-seeded team of Madison Bortner and Regan Ford of South Western, 6-3, 6-2.
The other Class AAA semifinal will see two Dallastown teams face off as No. 2 seed Christie Friedrich and Angela Friedrich will take on No. 3 seed Chloe Berridge and Madi Reed.
On the Class AA side at Red Lion, the top four seeds advanced to today's semifinals.
Top-seeded Alyssa Neudecker and Ellie Neudecker of Delone Catholic won both of their matches in straight sets. They advance to face No. 3 seed Carolyn Thomas and Samantha Schwamb of York Catholic.
York Catholic's Annie Javitt and Erin McBrairty won the match of they day as they took down Bermudian's Brooke Yurick and Cassidy Reigart in three sets, 7-5, 2-6, 7-6 (4). But they couldn't get past No. 4 seed Samantha Clancy and Bailey Cross of York Suburban, who won, 6-2, 6-0.
Clancy and Cross will take on No. 2 seed Alyssa Miller and Claire Boone of Kennard-Dale, who won both of their matches in straight sets.
Both the Class AAA and AA semifinals will take place at South Western at 2:30 p.m. today.
