Thursday's boys' soccer roundup: York Catholic surprises Biglerville

Biglerville overcame a two-goal deficit and took the lead with about 16 minutes to play in regulation only to watch host York Catholic score three times in the final 10:58 for a 6-4 upset victory in YAIAA Division III boys' soccer action Thursday. York Catholic's Tommy Bowser scored the eventual game-winner with 5:29 left and Jeff Waser sealed the win by scoring 48 seconds later.

The Biglerville loss opens the door for Bermudian Springs in Division III. The teams entered play tied for first with 8-1 records, with their only losses coming against each other.

Biglerville's Carlos Esquivias scored with 15:57 remaining to give the Canners a 4-3 advantage and their first lead of the game.

But then York Catholic rallied. Mason Elliot scored with 10:58 to play to tie the score. Bowser put the Irish in front for good, and Waser added his second goal of the game with 4:41 to play.

The Fighting Irish jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening 13 minutes only to see Jared Dotson-Jones and Jose Cernas tie the game with first-half scores.

York Catholic's Tate Kibler scored a go-ahead goal with about 10 minutes to play before halftime to put the Irish back in front, 3-2.

BERMUDIAN SPRINGS 3, DELONE CATHOLIC 2 (OT) >> Bermudian took over sole possession of first place in Division III in a wild contest. Samuel Johnson scored the game-winning goal for the Eagles with 4:32 left in overtime.

Delone Catholic's Ben Fehsal scored two goals, but Bermudian forced overtime when Delone Catholic scored an own goal with 17 seconds to play in regulation after a ball bounced off Fehsal.

Jhonatan Hernandez tied the game early in the second half and Jacob Halfman recorded two assists.
