Central York edges Eastern York for YAIAA team golf championship


Eastern York's Kevin Crumbling and Andrew Davis shot the low rounds of the day, but the Central York golfers got the last laugh Wednesday with a balanced team effort, winning the YAIAA team tournament at Briarwood East.

The top four Panthers golfers were all under 80 as Central beat the Golden Knights by seven strokes.

Connor Bacha carded a 73 to lead the Panthers' charge, finishing a stroke behind Crumbling and Davis. Gus Minkin added a 74, and Julianne Lee and Matt Bricker each shot 79 to bring home the title with a score of 305.

With the victory, Central York advances to next week's District 3 championships which also will be held at Briarwood East and will feature the Mid-Penn, York-Adams, Lancaster-Lebanon and Berks champions.

The Division II champion Golden Knights finished with a 312, led by a first-place tie by Crumbling and Davis, who each shot 72. Zach Dixon was fifth individually with a 75, and Alexandra Lowder carded a 93.

Division III winner York Catholic finished third with a 340. Andrew Forjan led the way with a 77, followed by Josh Stewart (86 ), Jon Giambalvo (88) and Steven Nigro (89).

The District 3 team championships are scheduled to begin at noon Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the YAIAA individual golf tournament is set for 11 a.m. Thursday at Briarwood.
