Delone Catholic sweeps Hanover as coach Jason Leppo passes 100-win mark

Delone Catholic keeps racking up wins for coach Jason Leppo.

After sweeping York County Tech last week for the fifth-year coach's 100th career win, the Squirettes pushed his total past the century mark with Tuesday's sweep of Hanover, 25-15, 25-12, 25-20.

"It's the same formula as it is in any sport: Nothing good can happen before hard work," Leppo said of picking up his 100th win. "We've been blessed to have a whole lot of kids that buy into each other and the program and believe in what we're doing."

Delone Catholic (6-0), which has yet to drop a game in any match against a YAIAA opponent this season, got one of its toughest tests of the season against Hanover (7-3), which entered the match 5-0 in Division III. After pulling away for wins in games 1 and 2, the Squirettes fell behind 6-0 in the third and trailed the entire game until scoring three straight points to tie the score at 20.

After Leppo called a timeout with the score tied, the Squirettes reeled off five more points in a row to complete the sweep.

"We're trying to learn how to love the challenge of being down, of being in a hostile environment and having to respond," Leppo said. "That was great to see how we battled back there."

Lilly Singleton led Delone Catholic with seven kills, while Katie Laughman posted a game-high 28 assists as Delone Catholic took sole possession of first place in Division III.

For Hanover, coach Liz Garber isn't worried about the loss negatively affecting her team moving forward.

"Delone is an amazing team, I just told the girls I wanted them to fight as hard as they could and play their best game, and I thought they did," she said. "I think the girls really ended on a positive note, so I think it'll carry over in a good way."
