Biglerville cashes in against Delone Catholic with two goals in final 10 minutes

For 70 minutes, Biglerville had its hands full with Delone Catholic. But the Canners netted a pair of goals in the final 10 minutes to defeat the Squires, 5-3, in YAIAA Division III boys' soccer action Tuesday night at a rainy Musselman Stadium in Biglerville.

Delone (3-6, 3-4 YAIAA III) stayed in front or even until Jared Dotson-Jones scored his second goal of the night off an assist from Carlos Esquivias that pushed the Canners in front, 4-3, with 9:36 left in the match. The go-ahead goal was created when Esquivias slipped a ball past Delone's charging keeper, Nick Durski. Dotson-Jones outran a Squires defender for the tap-in finish.

Esquivias then put the match away for Biglerville (7-3, 6-1) with a goal with 5:15 to go.

"It's extremely hard to play on a wet field when you're a control team like we are," Biglerville head coach Jebb Nelson said. "It's hard for us to execute our game plan. "Take nothing away from Delone, though. They played excellent tonight."

Christian Trummer put the Squires in front just 39 seconds into the match when he scored from 25 yards out on the right flank and Durski protected that lead until late in the opening half. The senior net minder denied multiple Biglerville shots, including Dotson-Jones' penalty kick attempt with 14:42 to play until halftime.

Fisher Taylor found the equalizer at the 5:03 mark of the first half when Durski got a hand on his shot, but was unable to keep it out of the net.

Delone pulled ahead on Alex Trummer's marker with 28:27 remaining, before Dotson-Jones leveled the match with 24:30 left.

The match stayed tied for all of 16 seconds when Armando Ugarte beat Canners keeper Mitchell Thomas to a loose ball and fired it into an open net with 24:14 left.

Connor Griest knotted the match for the Canners when his shot went under a diving Durski with 12:57 to play.

"It was probably harder for us to get up for this match. We had a big win over Bermudian in our last match and with the time change from 7:00 to 5:30 today, it threw off our routine," Nelson said. "Also, I've been saying it all year that we get everyone's best shot, and Delone gave us everything we could handle for 70 minutes tonight. Whether it's 10 minutes or 80 minutes, we know we're getting everything our opponent has for as long as they can give it to us in all of our division matches."

Biglerville held an 11-4 advantage in shots on goal. Corners were even, 4-4.

"The kids played a great game. I can't be negative at all right now," Delone head coach Denton Thomas said. "A bounce here or a bounce there and it could've been a different result. We had a game plan and the kids executed it. No complaints from me. I just hope that we can play the way we did tonight every game we play. If we can, we'll win most of our matches."
