Some athletes like to do all the scoring. Some take pride in setting their teammates up for the highlight-reel goals. West York senior Hunter Betz put together quite a high school career doing the latter.
While the senior still cracked the top eight in the league in goal-scoring (45), he was far and away the leader in assists, handing out 66 helpers — 20 more than his nearest competitor.
Betz also led West York to its first YAIAA title, which he calls his favorite memory as a Bulldog, and was named the coaches' Offensive Player of the Year.
Betz recently reflected on his accomplishments as his West York career ends with a GameTimePA.com Player of the Year honor.
Looking back on your four years, what was your best memory and why?
Playing Susky in the league title game at their home field and beating them on the field we could never beat them on. The feeling of finally doing it was my favorite memory. In the beginning of the season, we came together and decided our goal was to win the division and the league championship. And that's what we did.

What are you going to miss the most about high school lacrosse?
All of my teammates who I played with from freshman to senior years.
Is there one specific goal or assist from this year that stands out in your mind as your favorite?
My assist to Trevor Sweitzer for his one-handed goal. I'm not sure who it was against but it was an awesome play a few seconds before halftime. I saw him cutting in the middle, then he caught it one handed and finished.
What's the biggest difference in your game from last season to this season?
Just knowing that we lost a lot of good seniors last year and knowing I had to step up more in order for us to have a great season.
What's going through your head when you have the ball on your stick?
Find the open man. What can I do to not cause a turnover? Help get the ball in the net.

I saw you're going to Delaware Valley. Do you have any goals for your college career?
No, not yet. There's a good possibility that I start, but I just have to keep working in the offseason and hopefully that can come true.
Okay, a few rapid-fire questions now. Any gameday superstitions?
I always have to wear the same pair of all-blue shoes.
