ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Oct. 26 to Nov. 1

Football of the Week

  • Justice Belleman, Cedar Crest: Belleman rumbled for 242 yards and three touchdowns in the Falcons' 37-14 win over Conestoga Valley to all but secure a district playoff berth.









  • Girls' of the Week

  • Maddy Mummert, Susquehannock soccer: Mummert netted two goals in the Warriors' 3-0 win over Twin Valley in the first round of the District 3 Class AA girls' soccer tournament, then ripped home two more in the team's 2-0 semifinals win over Northeastern.









  • Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Gettysburg soccer defense: The undefeated Warriors have recorded shutouts in 15 of their last 16 matches, the most recent coming in a 4-0 win over East Pennsboro in the District 3 Class AA quarterfinals round.










  • ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Oct. 19 to Oct. 25

    Football of the Week

  • Isaac Wengert, Northern Lebanon: Wengert accounted for 448 total offensive yards and scored seven touchdowns in a 58-36 Vikings win over Annville-Cleona.









  • Girls' of the Week

  • Mia Rexroth, Dallastown soccer: She scored the overtime game winner in the Wildcats' 3-2 win over Dover on Tuesday, then cashed in another goal in the team's 3-2 championship-game victory over Dover on Thursday.









  • Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Sean Bordner, Palmyra boys soccer: Bordner scored with 13.3 seconds left in a district play-in game to lift the Cougars past Elco, 3-2.










  • ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Oct. 12 to Oct. 18

    Football Athlete of the Week

  • Collin "Bear" Shank, Lampeter-Strasburg: The senior quarterback threw for 372 yards and five touchdowns while rushing for another against Manheim Central in a 40-27 victory.









  • Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Lydia Fimmano, Dallastown cross country: Fimmano finished first overall in the YAIAA Division I cross country meet with a time of 20 minutes, 56 seconds.









  • Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Eli Setlock, Annville-Cleona boys' soccer: Setlock scored in the 78th minute of Saturday's L-L quarterfinal game against undefeated Elizabethtown to give the Little Dutchmen their first league playoff win in program history.










  • ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Oct. 5 to Oct. 10

    Football Athlete of the Week

    Ethan Harro, Palmyra: Harro racked up more than 100 receiving yards, reeled in a touchdown pass and kicked two field goals in the Cougars' 19-0 blanking of Boiling Springs.

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

    Victoria Swiger, Spring Grove soccer:She only played a minute of the Rockets' victory against New Oxford, but the senior is a two-time winner in her battle against melanoma. Her fight against skin cancer prompted her teammates to hold their first "blackout game" to raise awareness about the disease.

    Boys' Athlete of the Week

    Mikell McGee, Fannett-Metal soccer: McGee assisted on the game-winning goal in an overtime win over Shalom Christian, scored the tying goal and another one later in a win over McConnellsburg, then scored 7 goals (with six coming in a span of 16 minutes) in a victory over Cumberland Valley Christian.

    ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Sept. 28 to Oct. 3

    Football Athlete of the Week

    Andrew Olson, Elco: Olson caught nine passes for 150 yards and two touchdowns against Annville-Cleona, including the game-winner in the 40-39 overtime thriller.

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

    Maddie Ferner, Kennard-Dale cross country: She's been running well of late, setting the Kennard-Dale course record in a time of 19 minutes, 52 seconds on Wednesday.

    Boys' Athlete of the Week

    Brandon Stuhler, Greencastle-Antrim boys' soccer: He netted five goals in two games this weekend, including his first-ever hat trick and Greencastle's only points of the game in Friday's 3-1 victory over Big Spring.

    ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Sept. 21 to 26

    Football Athlete of the Week

    Noah McCardell, Solanco: The senior quarterback rushed for 135 yards and five touchdowns against Lampeter-Strasburg in a Section Two showdown.

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

    Emily Peters, Cedar Crest field hockey: Peters scored five goals in the Falcon Fall Classic, leading Cedar Crest to a 5-1 championship win over Annville-Cleona on Saturday.

    Boys' Athlete of the Week

    Jordan Shaffer, Chambersburg golf: Shaffer won medalist honors in the Trojans' final match of the season by shooting an on-par 73 at Chambersburg Country Club.It was the second week in a row that he was either on par or below, and the win lifted the Trojans to their 163rd straight victory in the Mid Penn Colonial Division.

    ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Sept. 14 to Sept. 20

    Football Athlete of the Week

  • Logan Horn, Cedar Crest: Horn, a freshman, threw for 219 yards and two touchdowns in his varsity debut under center.









  • Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Maddie McLain, Eastern York, cross country: A new week, a new record for the Golden Knights' sophomore, who's time of 19:40.31 set a new course record at Codorus State Park. It was her second course record of the season.









  • Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Jake Boehme, McConnellsburg boys soccer: Boehme had a very productive week in a 3-0 week for the Spartans. He scored six goals and had four assists in three games this week, which included a three-goal, two-assist performance versus Conemaugh Township.










  • ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Sept. 7 to Sept. 12

    Football Athlete of the Week

  • Dylan Weaver, Northern Lebanon RB/KR: Weaver scored in each phase and totaled four touchdowns during the Vikings' 51-27 rout of Lebanon on Friday night. The junior transfer from Central Dauphin opened with a kickoff return for a touchdown, finished with a pick-six and piled up 161 yards rushing in between.









  • Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Emily Zwiercan, Cocalico girls' soccer: The senior forward scored a CHS single - game record eight goals against Warwick on Saturday in the Eagles 9-7 victory over Warwick. Zwiercan scored a total of 10 goals last week.









  • Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Peter Wagner, York Suburban cross country: Wagner led the charge for the defending Division II PIAA champs. His time of 18:17 at Dover was good for first place, as he was the first of four Trojans to finish atop the field.










  • ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Aug. 31 to Sept. 5

    Football Athlete of the Week

  • Nate Trimble, Hempfield: With an ultimate show of sportsmanship, Trimble offered his starting spot on the Black Knights' defensive line to sophomore Evan Pritchard after Pritchard's father passed away the previous week.









  • Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Reagan Hess, Annville-Cleona girls' soccer: Hess scored two goals and added three assists Saturday in Annville-Cleona girls' soccer's season opener at Lancaster Country Day. Hess, a junior, is now eight goals away from breaking the program record for career goals.









  • Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Gus Minkin, Central York golf: The senior paced the Panthers with a 4-under 68, leading the team to the title at Springwood Golf Course.










  • ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: May 18 to May 24

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Madison Smith, New Oxford track: Smith finished second at the PIAA Class AAA Championships with a javelin throw of 135 feet, 2 inches.










  • Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Jeronimo Rodriguez, Lebanon track and field: Rodriguez took second place in the 400-meter run in the Class AAA boys' division at the PIAA state track and field meet Saturday with a time of 49.12 seconds.










  • ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: May 11 to May 17

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Erin Winters, Lebanon track: Winters set a new District Three Class AAA pole vault record at the district meet at 12 feet, 4 inches. She was awarded silver on account of more misses.










  • Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Evan Horn, Cedar Crest track and field: Horn won the District 3 Class AAA javelin gold medal on his final throw.











  • ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: May 4 to May 10

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Kayla Resh, Central York softball: Resh delivered the walk-off base hit in Central's 5-4 win over Dallastown. The victory granted the Panthers an outright Division I title. She then fired a complete-game shutout in the team's 4-0 win over Dover in Friday's YAIAA semifinal.











  • Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Jeff Taylor, Penn Manor baseball: The sophomore hurler one-hit Lancaster Catholic in the Comets' 4-0 win Saturday during the L-L quarterfinals. In 85 pitches through seven innings, Taylor walked just one batter while striking out six.










  • ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: April 27 to May 2

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Abby Wilmot, Chambersburg girls lacrosse: She had a career game in Chambersburg's 16-5 win over Mechanicsburg on Thursday, recording seven goals to break the previous school record of five, which she and Meaghan Rhodes owned. She also scored four goals in the Trojans' loss to Northern York, and now has 29 on the season.









  • Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Will Wanner, Lancaster Mennonite Tennis: Wanner led ELCO's Adam Bahney 5-4 in the second set for the Lancaster-Lebanon Class AA championship before Bahney rallied to force a tie-breaker set in the marathon match. The sophomore Wanner eventually bested the senior Bahney (6-2, 6-7(6), 7-6(4)) for his second-consecutive league title.










  • ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: April 20 to April 25

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Ally Brown, Greencastle-Antrim softball: Brown was a big hitter in the Blue Devils' three wins this week; she finished 8-for-11 with a home run, four triples and 13 RBIs. She also fired a five hitter with six strikeouts and no walks in a 17-2 win over Waynesboro.









  • Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Jeronimo Rodriguez , Lebanon track: Rodriguez set a new county meet record in the 400 meter dash (49.0) en route to being named the outstanding male athlete at the Lebanon County Track and Field Championships for the second straight year. He also won the 200 meters at the county meet.










  • ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: April 14 to April 19

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Claire Shaak, Elco softball: Shaak went 3-for-3 and fell a home run shy of the cycle in a 2-0 win against Annville-Cleona. She also fired a complete-game two-hitter from the circle.










  • Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Camryn Shaak, Lebanon baseball: Shaak threw a perfect game in his first varsity appearance on the mound, a 10-0, six-inning home win over Lebanon Catholic.










  • ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: April 6 to 11

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Lexi Wolfe, Shippensburg softball: Wolfe was a big part of the Hounds' 3-0 week. She went 3-for-4 with a run scored against Big Spring, finished 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs against Waynesboro and then fired a two-hitter in a 4-1 win over Carlisle.









  • Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Colin Muraika, Cedar Crest tennis: Muraika won his third straight county singles title on Saturday with a 4-6, 6-3, (10-8) victory over Elco's Adam Bahney. Muraika's win also helped Crest to a share of the team title.










  • ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: March 30 to April 4

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Brittany Hook, Penn Manor softball: In a 1-0 victory over Hempfield, the freshman pitcher racked up 10 strikeouts while allowing just four hits and zero walks in seven innings. Hook also hit a sacrifice fly for the game-winning run.









  • Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Danny Stoner, Biglerville track: He won four events, including a sweep in the hurdles, as well as long jump and pole vault during Tuesday's win against York County Tech. His 13-9 height in the pole vault was the same height as his YAIAA championship mark.










  • ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: March 23 to 28

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Tatiana Purnell, Mercersburg Academy track & field: Purnell started the season in style, picking up two victories in a five-team meet on Tuesday, then adding a gold medal and a pair of silvers at the Tim Cook Invitational on Saturday.









  • Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Cade Gold, Dallastown lacrosse: Gold scored two goals in first 1:13 of the Wildcats' season-opening win over Red Lion.










  • ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: March 9 to March 14

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Katy McClellan, Palmyra girls basketball: McClellan posted a team-high 30 points over two state tournament wins to help push the Cougars into the Class AAAA girls' Final Four.











  • Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Matt Spinello, York Suburban swimming: He earned a silver medal in the PIAA Class AA 100-fly with a time of 51.37. Spinello was also a member of the Trojans 200 free relay team (Aidan Fryer, Diego Herrera and Karl Schmittle) that won bronze medal with a time of 1:28.92. He won a bronze with same relay team in 400 free relay with time of 3:17.44.










  • ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: March 2 to March 7

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Rachel Miller, Cedar Crest girls' basketball In one of her best performances of the year, Miller posted a team-best 15 points to help upset state power Downington East in the PIAA state tournament Saturday. Thanks to Miller's 11-point performance in the second quarter, the Falcons jumped out to a 29-16 lead and never looked back.










  • Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Josh Bucher, Cedar Crest boys' basketball: The senior guard poured in a career-high 29 points during the Falcons' 63-47 first-round blowout of Lower Merion on Saturday. Bucher knocked down four 3-pointers and guided Cedar Crest to a second-round meeting with nationally-ranked Roman Catholic.










  • ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Feb. 23 to Feb. 28

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Abby Stauffer, Chambersburg swimming: At the District 3 swimming championships, Stauffer set or helped set four school records. She broke her own school record in the 200 IM (she placed second) and 500 freestyle (placed fourth), and also swam on the 200 medley relay and 400 free relays that set school records.









  • Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Connor Litton, Southern Fulton boys' basketball: In three District 5 Class A playoff games last week, Litton produced double-doubles in each. He had 17 points and 13 rebounds in the quarterfinals, 26 points and 13 rebounds in the semifinals and 10 points and 11 boards in the final. The Indians lost to Shanksville in the final.










  • ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Feb. 16 to Feb. 21

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Claudia Mingora, York Suburban basketball: She scored a game-high 21 points including eight points in the fourth quarter - all from the free-throw line - in a 45-37 District 3 tournament win over Fleetwood.









  • Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Jeff Inman, Annville-Cleona wrestling Inman captured his second-straight District 3 Class AA title over the weekend, taking the 152-pound title at Hersheypark Arena. It was also Inman's third-straight appearance in the district finals.










  • ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Feb. 9 to Feb. 14

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Ayanda McGill-Jefferson, McCaskey basketball: The McCaskey sophomore had a monster game in the L-L semifinals against Donegal, scoring 20 points and pulling down an astounding 25 rebounds.









  • Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Josh Bucher, Cedar Crest basketball Bucher posted a team-high 19 points in the Falcons' 70-66 Lancaster-Lebanon League championship win over McCaskey. He went a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter and finishing his high school career with back-to-back league titles.










  • ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Feb. 1 to 7

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Amari Johnson, Dallastown basketball: It was the perfect night for the Wildcats' senior, who scored her 1,000th career point as Dallastown beat Red Lion, 40-31, for the Division I regular-season championship. Johnson then followed that up with 23 points in the Wildcats' 67-48 win over Northeastern to open the YAIAA tournament.

  • Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Chandler Olson, Shippensburg wrestling: A sophomore, Olson was 6-0 last week, including 5 pins. He was 5-0 in the Cougar Duals at Martin Luther King H.S., with 4 pins, running his season totals to 25-1 with 12 pins.

  • ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Jan. 26 to Jan. 31

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Alyssa Austin, Cedar Crest girls basketball: Austin had a huge game on Wednesday, dominating the paint and scoring 26 points - 20 of which came in the second half and overtime - as the Falcons upended Palmyra, 65-61 in overtime. It was only the second loss of the season for Palmyra, the top-ranked team in District 3 Class AAAA.









  • Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Jake Stoner, Dallastown swimming He scored wins in the 50 and 100 free, plus was on the 200 and 400 free relays. Such performances helped the Wildcats wrap up their seventh straight YAIAA Division I championship.










  • ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Jan. 19 to Jan. 24

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Debria Hendricks, Dallastown basketball: Hendricks carried the Wildcats down the stretch during their 47-38 win over New Oxford on Friday night. She scored nine of her game-high 18 points in the fourth period while knocking down 7-of-9 shots from the free-throw line. She also hit three 3-pointers on the evening.









  • Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Bo Spiller, Solanco wrestling Spiller cruised to his second consecutive L-L wrestling title on Saturday, pinning four-straight opponents to claim the heavyweight crown.










  • ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Jan. 12 to Jan. 17

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Zoe Zerman, Northern Lebanon girls' basketball: Although her team went 1-1 last week, Zerman exploded for 23.5 points per game over that stretch. She nearly led the Vikings to an upset of Lancaster Catholic (unbeaten in Section Three-Four play) and then dropped 27 points on Columbia.











  • Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Mikell McGee, Fannett-Metal boys' basketball: McGee totaled 147 points over a four-game stretch last week - an average of 36 points per game. He also scored a career-high 45 points in the Tigers' win over Forbes Road and is averaging 24.8 points per game this season.










  • ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Jan. 5 to Jan. 10

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Alexis Hill, Lebanon basketball: Hill, a freshman forward, averaged 23.0 points in two games and had a game to remember in Friday's win over Garden Spot, producing a triple-double of 25 points, 18 rebounds (13 offensive) and 10 steals.









  • Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Jared Starliper, Greencastle-Antrim wrestling: In Saturday's Annville-Cleona Duals Tournament, Starliper was 5-0 and scored 5 pins at 285 pounds. It was second straight Saturday that Starliper went 5-0 with 5 pins in a duals tourney. He is 16-1 with 15 pins.










  • ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Dec. 29 to Jan. 3

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Girls: Olivia Mottern, Southern Fulton girls basketball: In the Hancock Holiday Mixer last week, Mottern totaled 49 points, 15 rebounds and nine assists in two games. The sophomore scored a career-high 25 points in the Indians win over Berkeley Springs.









  • Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Boys: Evan Horn (Cedar Crest boys basketball): Horn scored 22 points to lead the Falcons to a holiday tournament title win over Hershey and helped them escape with a two-point win at Manheim Township.












  • ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Dec. 22 to Dec. 27

    Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Jahaire Wilson, William Penn basketball: It was an all-around week for Wilson, who scored 14 points, pulled down 13 rebounds and blocked six shots in the Bearcats' 49-48 loss to Chester last Saturday. He then scored a team-high 19 points in William Penn's 61-44 road win over Red Lion last Tuesday.









  • Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Lauren Ellis, Chambersburg swimming: Ellis helped the Trojans to the team championship in last Saturday's Bulldog Bash. She won two individual events - the 200 freestyle (2:01.97) and 100 butterfly (1:03.51). Ellis also helped the 200 medley and 200 freestyle teams to victory. In 4 dual meets, she has won 7 of her 8 individual races












  • ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Dec. 15 to Dec. 20

    Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Bo Spiller, Solanco wrestling: The Solanco senior won the Beast of the East tournament in the heavyweight division on Saturday. He also won his 100th career match in the process.








  • Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Melissa Zeger, Fannett-Metal basketball: Zeger averaged a double-double in all three games this week, scoring 69 points and pulling down 47 rebounds. Her 18-point, 21-rebound performance on Tuesday lifted the Tigers to their first victory of the season, a 64-40 win over Belleville Mennonite.










  • ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Dec. 8 to Dec. 13

    Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Eli Brooks, Spring Grove: The Rockets point guard had a solid first week of the season. In three-straight games to open the year, Brooks scored 24 points, scored 20 points and pulled down seven rebounds, and then scored another 22 points as the Rockets posted a 2-2 record overall.










  • Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Peyten Lyons, Palmyra swimming: The Cougars' senior standout helped Palmyra to a 2-0 week that began defense of its Mid-Penn Keystone title, winning four different individual events (200 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 backstroke) along the way.











  • ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Nov. 3 to Nov. 8

    Football Athlete of the Week

  • Justin Moreno, Manheim Central: The senior fullback/linebacker scored five rushing touchdowns against Garden Spot in their District 3 playoff opener. Moreno had 92 yards on the ground and added an interception on defense.







  • Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Talia Grynkewicz, Elizabethtown soccer: Grynkewicz scored four goals in the Bears' PIAA Class AAA quarterfinals matchup against Archbishop Ryan to send E-Town to the state semifinals.








  • Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Yingling brothers, Gettysburg soccer: The siblings - Matt and Adam - scored the first and second goals of the game, as Gettysburg downed Lansdale Catholic, 2-0, in the PIAA opening-round win on Wednesday. It was Adam's 20th goal of the season, while Matt buried his 14th.










  • ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Oct. 27 to Nov. 1

    Football Athlete of the Week

  • Collin Shank, Lampeter-Strasburg: The 6'1, 210 junior quarterback completed 13-of-23 passes for 212 yards with four touchdowns and zero interceptions against Garden Spot to help the Pioneers claim their first section title since 2011. Shank also rushed for 80 yards on 17 carries.







  • Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Katie Dembrowski, Palmyra field hockey: Dembrowski assisted on both goals in Palmyra's 2-1 district semifinal win vs. Cumberland Valley. She also added a defensive save that kept Palmyra in the game in Saturday's 1-0 championship game loss to Lower Dauphin.








  • Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • York Suburban cross country team: In a light week for boys' athletics, we honored York Suburban's boys' cross country team for winning the PIAA Championships this past weekend in Hershey.












    ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Oct. 20 to Oct. 25

    Football Athlete of the Week

  • Dominic Trader, Northern Lebanon: Trader had 18 carries for 223 yards and three TDs in NL's win over Donegal on Friday that clinched a tie for its first section title since 1991. Trader also had an interception on defense.







  • Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Kiley Gallagher, Palmyra field hockey: Gallagher scored the game-tying goal with 40 seconds left in regulation, then added the game-winner with 2:11 left in overtime to lead Palmyra to a 2-1 OT win over Elizabethtown on Tuesday in the 1st round of districts. She added an assist in the Cougars' 3-0 win over Cedar Cliff on Saturday.








  • Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Dan Green, James Buchanan cross country: Green won his second straight District 3 Class AA cross country championship in a time of 16:32 -- 11 seconds faster than any one else.







  • ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Oct. 13 to Oct. 18

    Football Athlete of the Week

  • Collin Mailman, York Suburban: An absolutely monster night for Mailman in the Trojans 36-21 win over Dover on Friday. The wide receiver caught eight balls for 196 yards and three touchdowns to lead York Suburban to its upset victory.









  • Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Jereme Wells, Elizabethtown soccer: Jereme set the game-winning goal in the L-L semifinals against Manheim Central on Tuesday only to score the game-winner in the L-L finals against Manheim Township on Thursday.

  • Matt Peck, Waynesboro: In a 54-28 win against previously-unbeaten East Pennsboro, Peck caught seven passes for 200 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran five times for 33 yards and two more TDs.







  • Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Katina Jones, Penn Manor, tennis: Jones won her third straight L-L singles title last week after defeating Lampeter-Strasburg's Sarah Sambrick in the finals.








  • Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • David Coly, Mercersburg Academy, boys' soccer.: In two 3-1 wins last week over top competition, Coly scored five of his team's six goals. For the season, he has 20 goals and 11 assists for the 9-0 Blue Storm.







  • ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Sept. 29 to Oct. 4

  • Brock Geiman, South Western: Geiman was 9-of-12 for 263 yards and two touchdowns as the Mustangs blanked Red Lion, 20-0, on homecoming.

  • Sophie Hovis, York Suburban, field hockey: Hovis netted two goals -- the second being the game-winner -- in a 3-2, 2 OT win vs. Eastern York.

  • Mason Bard, Cumberland Valley Christian, boys' soccer: In a pair of wins against Heritage Academy and Shalom Christian, Bard scored a goal and had 3 assists in each game. He leads the Chambersburg-area with 24 goals and 21 assists.







  • ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Sept. 22 to Sept. 27

    Football Athlete of the Week

  • Connor Fetterhoff, Waynesboro: Fetterhoff completed 22-of-30 through the air for 425 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Indians to a 40-25 win against Northern York, giving Waynesboro a 1-0 start inside the Mid Penn Colonial Division.

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Reagan Hess, Annville-Cleona, girls' soccer: Hess scored three goals in a 2-1 week for A-C, including both goals in a 2-1 double OT win over nemesis Elco. Hess notched the game-winner in the 95th minute against Elco.

  • Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Ryan Dornes, Manheim Township, golf: Dornes became the first person in history to win four consecutive L-L titles after shooting a 75 at Pine Meadows Golf Course In Lebanon last week. Not even fellow Blue Streak and PGA Tour member Jim Furyk accomplished what Dornes pulled off throughout his high school career.

  • Ashley Stone, Susquehannock, girls' soccer: The junior goalkeeper stopped nine shots in the Warriors' 3-0 win over Dover. The victory snapped the Eagles' 32-match winning streak against YAIAA competition.

  • Gabriel Allgayer, Mercersburg Academy, cross country: In the 17th annual Mercersburg Invitational, Allgayer became the first-ever Blue Storm runner to capture first place.   • Andrew Hartlaub, South Western: Hartlaub did a little bit of everything in the Mustangs loss to Cedar Cliff: He scored on 93- and 95-yard kickoff returns, ran 5 times for 66 yards, caught 3 passes for 103 yards and hauled in a 41-yard pass for another TD.

  • Jess Howe, Chambersburg, volleyball: Howe helped the Trojans to a big 3-1 win over Central Dauphin with 11 kills, 19 digs, 15 service points and 3 aces.

  • Madison Armstrong, Chambersburg, boys soccer: Armstrong helped the Trojans to a 3-0 week. He made a spectacular save late in a 3-2 win over Red Land to preserve the lead, and made another at the end of regulation to keep the game 1-1 against Waynesboro, a game the Trojans won 2-1 in OT.   • ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Aug. 25 to Aug. 30

    Football Athlete of the Week

  • Isaac Ray, Northern Lebanon: Ray, a senior quarterback, engineered the Vikings to a 24-14 road victory over Pine Grove in Friday night's season opener. Scoreless at half, Ray helped produce three touchdowns in the second half, including a 57-yard touchdown pass to John Randolph. Ray also scored on separate 9-yard and 55-yard runs. He finished with 85 yards on 12 carries, in addition to throwing for 216 yards on 14-of-16 passing.

  • Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Kennedy Chandler, Waynesboro girls' soccer: Chandler had a big day on the attack for the Maidens in the Chambersburg Tournament on Saturday. She had both of the team's goals in its 2-0 win over Gettysburg in Game 1, and she notched the game-tying assist and scored in the penalty shootout in Waynesboro's win over the Trojans in the championship game.
