YAIAA softball coaches all-stars released
The 2017 YAIAA softball coaches all-star teams were released recently. Here is a rundown of each divisions' player and pitcher of the year.
Division I
Player of the Year: Courtney Coppersmith, Central York
Coppersmith established herself as the league’s dominant starter in the 2017. The University of Maryland-Baltimore County commit went 12-0 with 128 strikeouts and a 0.71 ERA in the regular season as Central York cruised to its third straight league title. The junior also batted cleanup for the Panthers and hit .477 with a team-high 28 RBIs.
Pitcher of the Year: Alanna Molz, New Oxford
Molz carried New Oxford through a tough Division I schedule, leading the Colonials to a 12-8 record and the District 3 playoffs. She shut down some of the league's top offenses and also batted third in New Oxford's lineup.
Division II
Player of the Year: Haley Updegraff, Northeastern
The sophomore leadoff hitter batted .606 and drove in 17 RBIs to help the Bobcats win Division II. She also picked off 12 runners as a catcher.
Pitcher of the Year: Taylor Lamparter, Dover
The junior was the top player on an Eagles team that came one game away from winning the division. She struck out 12 batters in a complete game, 5-2 win over South Western on April 24.
Division III
Player of the Year: Jaedyn McKeon, Kennard-Dale
The freshman shortstop hit .568 and racked up 27 RBIs and 38 runs scored. She helped the Rams capture both division and District 3 titles and reach the PIAA playoffs.
Pitcher of the Year: Maelynn Leber, Eastern York
Leber went 13-7 and struck out 81 batters for a Golden Knights team that reached the District 3 Class 4A title game and won a game in the state playoffs. The freshman also hit .528.
Division IV
Player of the Year: Katie Ernst, Delone Catholic
Only a freshman, Ernst hit .510 with 18 RBIs and 18 runs scored for Delone. She also had eight extra-base hits and played catcher.
Pitcher of the Year: Marlee Lackey, Delone Catholic
The junior went 7-0 with a 1.20 ERA for the Division IV champion Squirettes. She also struck out 64 batters in 47 innings.
