Anders sisters power Dallastown to win vs. South Western

An overwhelming Anders attack led Dallastown to a key 8-1 victory against South Western on Thursday afternoon.

Lyndee and Haylee Anders combined for six hits, four runs scored and two RBIs, as the host Wildcats kept pace with Central York in the race for first in YAIAA Division I.

"We are lucky to have two sisters like that," Dallastown head coach Jeff Deardorff said.

"It's a great feeling," said Lyndee Anders. "(Haylee) is such a great role model for me, and for us to bat back-to-back in the order is pretty incredible."

The duo braved chilly sub-50 degree conditions to pace the Wildcats' 14-hit onslaught.

"(Hitting in the cold) hurts sometimes," Deardorff said. "Once the game started, I don't think they were even thinking about it."

"I just tried to forget about the cold," said Lyndee Anders, who led off the game with a chalk-scraping line drive down the left-field line.

Moments later, her sister one-upped her, tripling to right-center to send Lyndee home and make it 1-0.

"They set the tone for the entire game with those two hits," Deardorff said.

Danielle Ludwig followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.

"(Scoring early) really helped us," Haylee Anders said. "It gave us the momentum, and Jaelyn (Harbold) was allowed to pitch in front and she pitched a great game."

After an eight-pitch first inning, Harbold struck out the side, using a devastating change-up to put away two batters in the frame.

"She was on today," Deardorff said. "It's right up there with (her best performances). Her stuff was working, she was hitting spots, and throwing the ball where she wanted to. You could tell by the look on her face that she was having fun."

"Her pitches were really moving, and she was getting girls to chase the pitches she wanted," Haylee Anders said. "She wasn't a giving them many pitches to hit."

Although Lyndee Anders racked up her second hit of the game, the Mustangs' Allie Fleming pitched consecutive scoreless innings to keep it 2-0 heading into the fourth.

Harbold carried a no-hitter into that inning, but South Western (7-4, 6-4) cut the lead in half with some small-ball.

Katelin Willinghan led off with a ground ball into the hole at short.

Maggie Noll went deep into the hole, tracked the ball down, and threw to first, but Willinghan reached the bag at the same time as the throw for an infield single.

Willinghan took two bases on a sacrifice bunt by Jordan Chell, and Hannah Glover drove in the run with a groundout.

Dallastown, however, responded.

In the bottom of the fourth, Kayla Flemmens singled up the middle on a change-up.

Lyndee Anders dropped in her third hit, a bloop single.

Haylee Anders struck out, but Kayla Collins drove a two-out RBI single to make it 3-1.

Dallastown (10-2, 9-1) broke things open in the sixth.

Flemmens, Lyndee and Haylee Anders singled in succession to plate one run, and Ludwig, Harbold, Madisyn Johnson and Noll each drove in runs to make it 8-1.

Willinghan had the only two hits for South Western.

"I think this is a big win for us. South Western has been doing really well lately," Lyndee Anders said. "Each game is crucial for us."
