Gettysburg's Dalyce Kump laced a line drive walk-off single between third base and shortstop to score Taylor Mummert in the Warriors' 3-2 victory against Northeastern in the bottom of the ninth in YAIAA Division II softball action Thursday afternoon in Gettysburg.

Mummert led off the ninth with a single, took second when Bri Crushong grounded out and advanced to third on a wild pitch before Kump's heroics on a 2-2 pitch from Bobcats pitcher Alli Sweitzer.

"I was really struggling to get a hit this week," Kump said. "I popped out in a big spot on Tuesday and felt really bad about it. I did a hitting lesson after that game where I worked on my timing and felt a lot better going into today's game."

Those two hits were the only hits for the Warriors that didn't come from Madelyn Yannetti, who had given Gettysburg a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first with a two-run homer. Her third homer of the season.

Yannetti made the lead stand up from the circle until there were two down in the top of the seventh.

Sweitzer kept her team alive when she reached via error with two outs, took second on a wild pitch and came around to score on a double by Kayla Jordan that fell just out of the reach of Crushong.

Gettysburg (5-4, 2-4) had an excellent chance to build its lead in the sixth when it had runners on second and third, but Bobcats shortstop Shelly Dugan made an outstanding running catch on Crushong's pop fly down the left field line to end the threat.

"We had a chance to add a couple runs in the bottom of the sixth, but their shortstop made a great play," Gettysburg head coach Max Laing said. "Then we were close to closing the deal in the seventh, but couldn't get it done. But I thought we had more momentum going into extra innings."

Northeastern (1-5, 1-4) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Jordan doubled with two outs and came around to score when Katelynn Reed reached on an error.

It was a short-lived lead, though, as Dani Cool led off the bottom of the first by drawing a walk and she came home when Yannetti smacked a line drive over the left field fence to put the hosts ahead.

The visitors had an excellent opportunity to tie or go ahead in the fifth when they loaded the bases with one out only to have Yannetti record a strikeout and a ground out to snuff out the threat.

Yannetti went the distance, throwing 153 pitches — 106 of them for strikes. She allowed two unearned runs on eight hits with 13 strikeouts and zero walks. She also had three hits, a homer and two singles.

"Madelyn gave us a heck of an effort today," Laing said. "Both with the bat and pitching."

Sweitzer was tough in defeat. She tossed a complete game, allowing three runs on five hits with eight strikeouts and one walk. She threw 118 pitches, including 79 strikes.

Jordan paced the Bobcats' eight-hit attack with a trio of hits, including two doubles. Dugan singled twice.
