District 3 roundup: Fairfield's strong season continues


The Fairfield girls' soccer team rang up six goals en route to a 6-0 win over Christian Academy on Tuesday in the first round of the Class A PIAA girls' soccer tournament.

The match was played at Northeastern High School.

Annabel Anderson scored three goals for the Green Knights. Fairfield also got goals from Nora Clarke, Maya Callenbach and Callie Fennimore. Hannah Logue dished out two assists for the Green Knights.

"I was pleased how our girls passed it, moved it it and, of course, finished it," said head coach Phomma Phanhthy.

The Green Knights will face Benton in Round 2 of the tournament. The game will be played Saturday, with the time and location to be determined.

With Tuesday's win, Fairfield moved to 23-1 overall.

Phanhthy said he knew he had a special team before the season even started, when the Green Knights competed in the 5 Angels Tournament at New Oxford High School. Phanhthy said the club has displayed strong trust and chemistry on the field ever since.

"It's been a fantastic season," Phanhthy said. "We've had a great run, and we're still on it."

Boys' soccer

Gettysburg 2, Archbishop Wood 0: The Warriors grabbed a Class 3A boys' soccer tournament first round win over the Vikings on Tuesday night.

The game was played at the South Philadelphia Supersite.

The Warriors will now face District 1 champion Radnor on Saturday. Time and location of the game will be determined.
