District 3 roundup: Irish return to title game

The York Catholic girls' soccer team continued its standout season with Thursday night's 1-0 win against Camp Hill in the District 3 Class 1A girls' soccer semifinals at Northeastern High School.

The Irish will advance to their second straight District 3 title game, where they'll face Fairfield at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hersheypark Stadium.

Renee Bonner scored Catholic's lone goal midway through the first half Thursday, and the Irish hung on from there, despite cold weather and a second-half downpour.

York Catholic lost in last year's District 3 championship and reached the second round of the state tournament.

This season, the team has 11 seniors on its roster and is hungry for a District 3 title. York Catholic went 0-2 against Fairfield during the 2016 regular season.

"They have a very, very good team," Irish head coach Joe Nattans said about Fairfield. "We got to the district finals last year and lost. If we play 80 minutes of good soccer, we'll feel good."
