Susquehannock golfer plays with PGA Champions

Susquehannock junior golfer Kendel Abrams recently competed at a PGA Tour Champions event at Pebble Beach, where she golfed with former PGA Tour golfer Jay Haas.

The First Tee of Greater Baltimore sent Abrams to the 2016 Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach, which was held Sept. 13-18. The event included 81 junior golfers paired with PGA Tour Champions players, as well as 162 amateurs.

"I was ecstatic to see my name on the screen of the Golf Channel as a participant that has been selected for 2016,” Abrams said in a news release. “I know this experience will be one to remember for the rest of my life."

Abrams played two rounds at Poppy Hills and Pebble Beach, finishing 5-under.

Abrams is a starter on Susquehannock’s varsity golf team. Three years ago, she developed a program called “Grasp Girls with Golf” to get more girls to play golf. She has been in The First Tee of Greater Baltimore program for three years.

This was her second attempt to participate in the First Tee Open.

“I applied last year and was not selected," she said in the news release. "It taught me to not give up on my dreams, continue to work hard, and stay positive."

Abrams was paired Haas, who earned nine PGA Tour victories from 1978 and 1993. She also met met celebrity Alphonso Ribeiro, best known for playing Carlton Banks on "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air."
