District 3 roundup: Bulldogs, Lions, Trojans into semis

West York girls’ volleyball never left any doubt.

Not with the play of its front line.

And not against league foe Susquehannock in a District 3 Class 3A quarterfinal.

West York rolled to a 25-18, 25-18, 25-19 victory Tuesday at Dallastown High School to clinch a berth in the state tournament for the first time in more than a decade. The Bulldogs advance to a Thursday semifinal against Palmyra.

“We’re living in the moment, and continuing to work hard,” West York coach Joe Ramp said about his team with its six seniors.

“West York is finally going to states.”

Noting he was nervous before the match, Ramp made a new rule. In an attempt to sharpen his team’s mental focus, he did not permit his players to talk before they warmed up. The rule might stay in place for the remainder of the postseason as his team came out firing.

Nothing ever looked in doubt for the Bulldogs. Marissa Krinock had a match-high 15 kills, freshman Tesia Thomas added nine and Kate Tate had eight.

“It’s been interesting, we’ve had our ups and downs but we came out and tried our best,” said West York senior setter Abbey James, who had 34 assists. “It’s pretty amazing. I mean, was hoping to get to (the league tournament) and districts, but now we are at states and I’m pretty excited for it.”
