YAIAA District 3 volleyball roundup: West York rolls past Gettysburg

It wasn't the start West York wanted.

Taking on 15th seeded Gettysburg in the first round of the District 3 Class 3A playoffs, the Bulldogs looked sloppy early and gave up the first three points. Having swept the Warriors twice in the regular season, West York certainly wasn't expecting to trail.

But the Bulldogs turned it around to sweep Gettysburg, 25-19, 25-20, 25-15, to advance to the second round. The Bulldogs will play Susquehannock on Tuesday.

"One thing this team is, they are fighters and will continue to fight until the score is what it its," West York head coach Joe Ramp said. "We're definitely going for the title. This was not our best night and they know that. That third set was much more what West York can do and should do."

Abbey James led the Bulldogs with 33 assists while Julia Rill contributed 12 kills and eight digs and Marisa Krinock registered 14 kills, three blocks and four digs. West York was challenged by Gettysburg early in the second set as well but cruised in the third, opening on a 9-2 run.

The second seed in the tournament, West York won't be satisfied with anything other than first place. Ramp said losing to eventual YAIAA champion Red Lion in the league semifinals in a five-set match has given the Bulldogs the confidence to play with anyone.

"It was good that we played a team at that caliber," Ramp said. "(Red Lion) is the only team we've lost to twice this season and we're okay with that. (The Bulldogs) pushed beyond what they're capable of doing so we know what they can do now."
