Spring Grove needs furious rally to win
The Spring Grove girls' volleyball team just wouldn’t give up. Trailing Dallastown two games to none, Spring Grove didn’t do the easy thing, which would’ve been to pack it in and head home early.
Instead, the Rockets dug down deep and found the sense of resiliency and heart that makes athletic competitions so enjoyable to watch. By the time the match was over, the Rockets had dug themselves out of the hole and won the final three games to earn a 3-2 victory against Dallastown.
Spring Grove won 22-25, 20-25, 25-17, 25-20, 17-15.
“It was an awesome, awesome win for us," Spring Grove coach Liz Zeigler said. "The perseverance of the girls and their fight for each point at the end was great.
“We just wanted to refocus after each point, and just keep resetting after each point. I’m very proud of the girls.”
The Rockets improved to 2-0 on the young season.
Senior Autumn Leese led the way for the Rockets. She recorded a match-leading 25 kills while also chipping in with 23 digs on defense.
Her leadership on and off the court was easy to notice as she wouldn’t let her team get down after dropping the second set, 25-20. The fiery leader was the catalyst in the comeback, with the Rockets winning the last three sets.
The Wildcats were led by junior setter Gabby Ream, who dished out 48 assists while also contributing four aces and two blocks. But in the end, it just wasn’t enough to overcome a furious Rockets' comeback.
