Thursday's girls' track roundup: Tamny helps Red Lion edge South Western

Despite being out-scored on the track, the Red Lion girls' track and field team edged South Western, 76-74, by taking 33 of 63 points in the field on Thursday.

The shot put proved to be a turning point. South Western's Anna Frazier won the event, but the battle was for second place, with only one-half inch separating Red Lion's Hailey Gunnet and South Western's Hannah Glover. Gunnet's second-place finish gave the Lions three team points, while Glover's Mustangs received one — the difference in the meet. Glover did find revenge later, edging Gunnet by a foot to win the javelin.

Johnnie Tamny came up clutch for the Lions, winning the high jump and adding a second-place finish in the long jump and third in the triple jump. Tamny also took won the 200 in 27.9.

Red Lion also benefitted from a 1-2 finish in the pole vault by Lauren Dever and Kendall Lookingbill.

The Mustangs were led by Lynne Mooradian who took first in the 300 hurdles and the triple jump while also anchoring the winning 400 and 1,600 relay teams.

Maddie Swanner came up clutch early for the Mustangs winning back-to-back events in the 100 hurdles and 100, both by slim margins.

South Western held a 44-43 margin in the track events.

Elsewhere, York Suburban's Maddie James won the long, triple and high jumps as the Trojans didn't lose a field event as they cruised to a 117-32 win at home against Susquehannock.
