Neudecker falls in District 3 semifinal

Delone Catholic's Ellie Neudecker lost in a District 3 Class 2A girls' tennis semifinal, 6-1, 6-0, to eventual district champion Alexandra Jadic of Wyomissing Saturday at Hershey Racquet Club.

The loss dropped Neudecker to the third-place consolation match. Neudecker needed a victory to earn a spot in the state tournament, but Lancaster Country Day's Amy Shields managed to hold off Neudecker, 6-3, 6-1, to clinch the final spot in the PIAA tournament.

In the championship bout, Jadic defeated Trinity's Katherine Long, 7-5, 6-3, to win the title.

Neudecker had advanced to the semifinals by knocking off the second-seeded Catherine Maher from Berks Catholic, 7-5, 1-6, 6-3, Friday. She was the only YAIAA player to reach the second day of the district tournament.

In Class 3A action, Exeter's Sammi Snyder defeated Manheim Township's Taylor Kopan, 6-4, 7-6 (4). Hempfield's Amanda Hagino won the third-place match to advance to the state tournament, defeating Manheim Township's Kate Moore, 6-1, 7-5.

New Oxford's Dagney Markle was the only YAIAA player to advance out of the first round.
