Championship matches set for YAIAA tennis tourney

The top two seeded players easily advanced to the YAIAA Class 3A singles championship match, while the Class 2A tournament featured a bit more drama during Friday's quarterfinals and semifinals.

The 3A championship match will pit top-seeded Dagney Markle of New Oxford against No. 2 Christie Friedrich of Dallastown. Each won her quarterfinal and semifinal in straight sets Friday.

In Class 2A, fifth-seeded Ellie Neudecker of Delone Catholic upset the top-seeded Brooke Yurick of Bermudian Springs in the quarterfinals. In the other quarterfinal in that half of the bracket, Biglerville's Morgan Orndorff rebounded from a first-set loss to beat York Suburban's Samantha Clancy in three sets.

Neudecker beat Orndorff in straight sets to advance to the title game. She'll take on York Suburban's Liv Pindzola, the No. 4 seed who won both of Friday's matches in straight sets.

The 2A championship and third-place matches will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at Wisehaven, followed immediately by the 3A championship and third-place matches.

The 2A third-place match will pit Orndorff against Siebert. And South Western's Michaela Sentz will take on Central York's Maddy Mummert for third place in 3A.
