Susquehannock's Stone scores winner in OT vs. Gettysburg

After dominating Gettysburg in the teams' first matchup this season, Susquehannock had to work for it Tuesday night at Warrior Stadium in Gettysburg.

But Maddie Stone found the back of the net with the golden goal at the 5:10 mark of overtime, giving York County's Warriors the win against Adams County's Warriors, 2-1, in YAIAA Division II girls' soccer action.

Stone's strike from 20 yards out on the left flank was set up by Taylor Tannura, who dribbled along the left baseline before slipping a pass to an open Stone.

"Taylor set it up nice for me, I just had to finish it," Stone said. "We started out slow tonight and they're a better team than they were the first time we played them."

Susquehannock (8-0-2, 6-0-1) took the first meeting, 3-0, on Sept. 6, dominating play from start to finish.

"We made a small adjustment and our girls have come a long way," Gettysburg head coach Josh Fissel said. "We're still young, we start a bunch of freshmen. But we've gotten to where we are much quicker than I expected us to."

Gettysburg (5-6, 5-2) began the match on the attack but was unable to find the net. The Warriors generated multiple scoring chances only to see them shut down by Susquehannock keeper Maggie Sisler.

"I've been coaching here for three years, and they always play us tough on their field," Susquehannock head coach Pat Brubaker said. "They changed things up a little, and that put us back on our heels a little bit."

The visitors turned the momentum in their favor about 10 minutes into the match and scored the match's first goal when Emma Lonas cleaned up a deflection from Carly Attig. The play started when Lonas shot off the right post. Attig gathered it and shot it into Gettysburg keeper Caton Raffensperger, who deflected it but was unable to recover in time for Lonas' rebound shot.

The count remained that way until Alexis Kranias played a long ball to her twin sister, Sophia. Sisler came flying off her line to challenge, but Sophia beat her to the ball and deposited it in the net to level the match with 24:45 to play in regulation.

Susquehannock had a pair of quality scoring chances in the final 14 minutes of regulation only to watch Raffensperger snuff them out, including one where she ranged far out and swallowed up Tannura's shot.

The visitors held a 9-3 edge in shots on goal and a 7-0 advantage in corners.
