Manheim Twp. girls pull away from Susquehannock

Susquehannock's promising girls' lacrosse season came to an end on Thursday in Hershey when the Warriors ran into seven-time defending District 3 champion Manheim Township.

A methodical, patient offensive approach kept the Warriors in it early, but the Blue Streaks ended the first half on a 5-0 run and pulled away in the second, 21-11.

Gena Speights scored four times, Riley Roeder added three goals and Tess Clancy made 11 saves, but Manheim Township won 25 of 35 draw controls, which proved to be a key difference.

Despite the loss, Susquehannock head coach Steve Marshner was optimistic of his program's future with just four seniors graduating from this year's team that finished the regular season third in the district.

"This team will keep their heads up," Marshner said. "Next year we've got some people coming in and we've got a lot of growth happening. ... We're going to be perfectly fine next year."
