Senior night was even sweeter for one Central York girls' basketball player on Friday night.

Emma Saxton scored her 1,000th career points early in the game against Spring Grove.

Saxton, whose brother Sam graduated in 2015 with 1,107 career points, entered the game four points away from the milestone. She notched her 998th point on the team’s second possession of the game.

Moments later, after five passes, she received the ball from teammate Teirra Preston beyond the arc. Saxton did the rest as the first quarter clock struck just below the 6-minute mark.

Swish.

Saxton became the fourth Central York girls’ basketball player to reach the milestone.

“When I shot it and saw it was straight on, I was like, ‘No way,’” she said. “I couldn’t believe it went in. I then just turned to my teammates, hugging and crying.”

Play then stopped. Saxton got the ball, gave head coach Scott Wisner a hug and ran up the bleachers to her family.

“All the work that she put in, it’s good to see that culminate into a great night like tonight in front of the home crowd,” said Saxton’s father, Scott. "She used to shoot around the basketball, but she really developed her game.”

Preston garnered the assist on Saxton’s shot.

“I feel like her and I have this connection where we can dish each other the ball and we know where someone is going to be,” Saxton said. “It’s natural (to us).”

Wisner said Saxton’s milestone was special for him, too, because he's coached her for five straight seasons.

“She [Emma] really can do many different things,” Wisner said. “She has developed into a great scorer, defender and can play in the post.

“She can do it all.”

Saxton is the ninth overall Central player to reach the milestone.

After Friday's 67-47 victory against Spring Grove, Central York has 11 wins in YAIAA Division I play, and they'll turn their attention to the postseason.

“Now we’re going to take one game at a time and see if we can win championships,” Wisner said.
