Susquehannock’s 51-36 victory over West York on Friday night was summed up in one play.

Midway through the third quarter, Warriors' senior Tyler Williams blocked a shot, passed the ball in transition, then received it back for a layup and a trip to the free-throw line for a chance at a three-point play.

That possession was one example of many that contributed to the team’s ninth division win of the season. The Warriors, who stand in first place in YAIAA Division II, moved to 14-3 overall and 9-1 in division. West York is now 12-5 on the year and 6-4 in YAIAA Division II play.

The Warriors moved the ball around a lot during each possession. That had a significant impact on the success of the team, especially when the Bulldogs were battling back.

On three separate occasions, sophomore Jayla Galbreath made a 3-pointer which put Susquehannock up just enough to hold the lead and eventually add to it. Galbreath finished with 12 points on the night.

“My team sets good screens and really worked to get me open,” the sophomore said.

Susquehannock’s 14-6 run to start the second half put the game away for the home team.

“We had certain people we didn’t want to help off of,” Bulldogs head coach Darrell Wildasin said in the loss. “The one’s that we saw were going to knock down shots pretty much did.”

Both teams came out flat early on in the contest. The Warriors held a 14-10 lead after one quarter due to costly turnovers and missed shots.

Warriors head coach Dave Schreiner wasn’t too concerned though, as his team battled back from playing tight the past couple games.

“I’ve been comfortable with our kids to the point where if we miss a couple shots early, I feel like they will come out of that on their own,” he said. “They just have to play basketball.”
