Hawkins leads West York to OT win at Dallastown
Angie Hawkins helped West York force overtime, and then she made critical plays in the extra session to help the Bulldogs knock off Dallastown, 47-43, Tuesday.
Dallastown (7-8) held a two-point lead in the final moments of regulation, but Hawkins scored down low with less than 10 seconds remaining to help force the extra session. She added five of her 16 points in overtime as West York knocked off Dallastown.
"There was a lot of adrenaline running through all of us, but we all knew what we had to do to get this win," Hawkins said.
Hawkins drained a 3-pointer with less than two minutes to play in overtime, and then she pulled down the defensive rebound at the other end of the floor. She would assist on another bucket to provide the Bulldogs with a five-point cushion.
Dallastown's Julia Sutton knocked down a 3-pointer in overtime to keep the game close. She finished with a game-high 19 points. Sam Miller added 13 points.
Trailing at one point by seven in the second half, the Bulldogs rallied to tie the game. Paige Weekly was a force for the Bulldogs, scoring eight of her team-high 17 points in the second quarter. And Catie McCarty came on strong at the end of the game, scoring all 10 of her points after halftime.
The Bulldogs (11-4) won despite missing Alayna Harris, who missed the game with a shoulder injury.
"I feel like without Makenna (Hoffman) and Alayna we stepped it up," Hawkins said about West York's injured players. "We kept up our intensity and came at them a little harder (in overtime) because we needed this win."
