Cocalico hands Red Lion its first loss

One night after its undefeated record was tested by William Penn, the Red Lion girls' basketball team suffered a 47-42 loss at the hands of Cocalico on Saturday.

The Lions took control in the first quarter, holding the Eagles to just six points. Natalie Reba scored seven of her team-high 13 points in the frame. The tables turned in the second, when Cocalico used a 17-6 quarter to head into halftime with the lead.

The teams combined to go to the free-throw line 52 times, and the Eagles were able to capitalize on a 19-of-35 performance. Megan Gingrich and Emily White each scored 16 points in the victory.

York Catholic 64, Eastern York 55: Kate Bauhof and Hannah Myers managed to match each other's scoring touch, but the Irish pulled away with the help an 18-12 run to end the game.

York Catholic's Bauhof and Eastern's Myers each managed to score 23 points. The Irish jumped out to a 15-11 lead through one quarter, but the teams played rather evenly until the pivotal fourth quarter. Gina Citrone (12 points) and Katy Rader helped pace the Irish offense.

jNew Oxford 48, Central Dauphin 44: Breanne Sauter sank a game-high 19 points and Presley Berryhill added 15 for New Oxford. The Colonials picked up a non-conference win on the road despite converting just 13 field goals. The Colonials took advantage of converting on 18-of-31 free-throw attempts.

Central Dauphin converted 18 field goals but earned just five free-throw attempts.
