Littlestown returns to playoffs for first time since 2013

After two seasons with a combined five wins, Littlestown's seniors finally got to savor a sweeter end to the season Friday night, defeating Fairfield, 49-13.

Their reward is a District 3 Class 2A playoff berth for the first time since 2013.

"I'm really happy for the seniors to finish this way," Littlestown head coach Mike Lippy said. "It's a credit to their dedication and commitment to sticking with the program, instead of walking away like they could have. To come back this year, and see them being rewarded for all they're hard work, the entire staff is happy about that."

For senior running back Wes Storey, the night did not start well.

Three plays into the game, he fumbled through the back of the end zone for a touchback while reaching for a score.

Littlestown was denied points in the red zone on its first two possessions.

"We started out kinda rough, but we stuck it out and played 'Bolt football," said Storey, who bounced back to rush for 169 yards and five touchdowns.

With Littlestown leading 7-0, Fairfield put together its best drive of the first half.

The Green Knights put together first downs on three straight plays, with Charlie Burnett rushing for 7 and 11, and Matt Irwin catching a 21-yard pass from Darian Mort.

Pushed to fourth-and-7 from the Littlestown 11, Mort rolled right and fired the ball to the front Horner of the end zone, but Trystan Grifffith could not haul it in.

"From there, we kind of got things together," Lippy said.

The Bolts took off on a 10-play, 79-yard drive that featured two quarterbacks.

It started slow, but Tanner Noble completed a 15-yard pass to Jake Thomas on third-and-7.

Devin Gullickson took over and ran a draw for 6, and 3 runs that totaled 20 yards followed.

Gullickson's 10-yard pass to Thomas picked up a first down, and Storey followed by bouncing the next run to the left and accelerating into the end zone.

A fake extra point led to a face mask penalty on Fairfield, and Storey bulled his way in for the conversion from a yard away.

The Bolts asserted their will on the first possession of the third quarter. Already up 22-0, they ripped off five straight runs of nine or more yards, culminating in Storey's 13-yard scamper to the end zone.
