Susquehannock sends seniors out in style
You could feel the excitement from a mile away after the Susquehannock Warriors’ 51-0 shutout victory over the Kennard-Dale Rams on Friday night.
Players swayed as one while the marching band played the school’s alma mater. It was bitter sweet for a group of Warriors though – the seniors, who just played their final game in front of the home crowd.
“We play for our brothers around us,” quarterback Chase Summers said. “The win was a great way to cap off our home portion of the season (and career).”
Susquehannock won every facet of the game – offense, defense and special teams.
Jack Allred and Ben Trego put the Warriors up 14-0 within the first nine minutes of action as both backs scored a rushing touchdown.
The team’s next score was an important one, as it was executed to a tee.
Kennard-Dale’s Noah Hulslander called for a screen pass on third down. The play was blown up right away, which resulted in a tip by Susquehannock’s Alec Kramer. Allred snatched the ball out of the air and took it 47 yards to the house.
“We prepared for that play all week long,” Allred said. “We just executed.”
Trego added two more touchdowns for the Warriors – a 29-yard leaping catch in the back of the end zone from Summers and a 41-yard punt return late in the game.
“I was waiting for that (a punt return) all year long,” Trego said. “My teammates set up some good blocks. They did all the work.”
Susquehannock head coach Steve Wiles understands the dedication and loyalty his seniors gave to the program.
“I’m ecstatic for our seniors because of the way they’ve handled this season,” Wiles said. “We’ve been in so many close football games but just fell short.”
The Warriors finish their season on the road against Dover.
“I talked to the underclassmen before this game and after next week, it’s their turn to carry the program,” Wiles said.
