Dallastown's Myers has winning pedigree

In almost 12 full seasons, Dallastown football coach Kevin Myers has led the Wildcats to 75 victories, including at least nine wins every season since 2013.

Myers and the Wildcats hope to extend that streak in the 2016 campaign.

To do so, they'll need to take care of business in the final two weeks of the season, starting with Friday night's home contest against Central York.

“48 minutes of football … that’s it,” Myers said. “We’re at the point now that our expectation is to win. This program has come a long way and we need to make sure we stay there.”

The Wildcats posted eight regular-season wins in 2013 along with two postseason wins. They followed that up with back-to-back nine-win regular seasons.

This year, Dallastown has emerged in the top tier of a a stacked YAIAA Division I field.

Last week's 55-6 rout of New Oxford gave the Wildcats their fourth Division I victory, helping them keep pace with division leader Red Lion (8-0, 5-0). The Lions hold the top spot in the standings a game above the Wildcats (7-1, 4-1). Central York and Northeastern lurk a game behind.

“People can doubt and overlook us (all they want),” quarterback Mike Sparks said. “We’re right there with the (top) teams.

“It’s about preparation.”

That preparation starts at the top, with the Wildcats buying into the system that Myers lays out.

“Just play football," Myers said. "We focus on us.”
