Playing quarterback is almost like riding a bike to Eastern York senior Jimmy Kurnik.

Sophomore signal-caller Seth Bernstein missed Friday night's YAIAA Division II game against Kennard-Dale. So Kurnik was asked to move from wide receiver to quarterback.

Until Bernstein's injury two weeks ago against Susquehannock, the 5-foot-10, 168-pound Kurnik hadn't played the position since scrimmages back in August.

But Kurnik didn't look rusty in his return to the position Friday night. He threw for one score and ran for another as the Golden Knights ran away with a 26-6 win at Eastern York High School.

"It was exhilarating" Kurnik said. "Everything just clicked. The team made good blocks and we ran the ball well."

Eastern York (4-4, 4-1) ran the ball 52 times in the game while attempting just two passes. One of those  was a 13-yard score to Kaleb Corwell.

"We made a separate package for me and it had more run plays," Kurnik said. "That's why we didn't throw much. The run was working."

The Golden Knights defense limited Kennard-Dale (0-8, 0-5 Division II) to 13 rushing yards and 6 passing yards in the second half.

"The defense has been great," said first-year Eastern York coach Jeff Mesich. "We made an adjustment after the first week and the kids bought into it. They've been playing downhill and fast."
