There was less than a minute left on the clock and the Susquehannock Warriors were on the Eastern York Golden Knights’ 10-yard line. The game was deadlocked at 21, but Jack Allred knew what he had to do.

The Warriors fullback already had two touchdowns on the night, and with 31.8 remaining, Allred picked up his third to lead Susquehannock to a 27-21 victory over the Golden Knights on homecomeing weekend.

“I just ran,” Allred said with smile when discussing his go-ahead touchdown. “I just saw what I could see. I decided to cut back and sell out. Find what I can find. My emotions are just way up there. I’m just happy.”

It was a big night for Allred, who put up 215 yards on the ground and scored three of the Warriors four touchdowns in a big win over the Division II leaders. It was a 34-yard run by Allred that gave the Warriors their first lead of the night after the Golden Knights had taken a 6-0 lead in the second quarter.

He scored again in final minute of the half to put Susquehannock ahead by a touchdown.

“He’s like a man possessed. He just runs the ball very, very hard,” Warriors head coach Steve Wiles said. “We did a nice job blocking tonight up front… Honestly I didn’t think he was going to have the night he did because I didn’t think we were going to get the fullback (involved) the way they played their defense.”

The Golden Knights put up a fight throughout Friday night’s contest. They battled back twice from behind, blocking a 36-yard field goal attempt and Kaleb Corwell running the ball back 84 yards to tie the game at 13. They tied things up again late in the fourth quarter off an 83-yard run from Jimmy Kurnik.

Eastern did this while dealing with two injuries during the course of the game. Quarterback Seth Bernstein left the game after the first drive with a hip injury and an unidentified player was carted off the field on a stretcher and taken to the hospital in the third quarter.

“I thought our young kids that came in played pretty well for us in a tough spot,” Eastern head coach Jeff Mesich said. “Those kind of injuries and situations, and adversities are going to happen. You just have to keep fighting through them and win the next play.”

A number was not visible from the press box on the injured player who was carted off the field, and Mesich did not want to identify him after the game out of respect for the player and his family. The injury occurred with 5:43 left in the third quarter.

The player was conscious on the field and talking to the trainers. He was released from the hospital on Friday night, Mesich said.
