Central York blows by New Oxford
Homecoming night didn’t turn out the way the New Oxford Colonials intended Friday night.
Instead of a big win in front of its home fans, the Colonials fell to visiting Central York. The Panthers took control from the opening snap and never let up, winning 47-0.
“We’re just not a very good football team right now,” said Colonials head coach Greg Bowman. “We didn’t execute like we practiced all week.”
The Panthers were a titanic force on both offense and defense Friday night, totaling 546 yards of offense while holding the Colonials to a mere 117 yards, including just 9 yards passing.
Panthers sophomore quarterback Cade Pribula was the driving force behind the powerful offensive attack, throwing for 279 yards and three touchdowns, while also chipping in 36 yards on the ground. He showed impressive poise going through his progressions in the pocket and found six different Panthers receivers to spread the ball to.
“I love the fact I’m going to have two-and-a-half more years with him,” said Central York head coach Josh Oswalt after the win. “It’s fun to watch him grow every week. It’s amazing to see where he was when we started working with him, and where he’s at now in his development.”
Wide receiver Sakai Barton was Pribula’s top target, as the senior finished the night with nine receptions for 153 yards. Junior Eddie Santiago hauled in three passes for 56 yards.
The Colonials struggled to do much of anything on offense most of the night, and a lot of credit went to the Panthers' defense for remaining stout.
“They have a lot of nice athletes in their second and third levels,” Bowman said. “They were covering our guys, and when we had guys get open, we didn’t put it on them.”
The Colonials remain winless on the season, and are now sitting at 0-6 on the year. Their offense continues to struggle to find much of an identity, as the team has now put up just six points over the past four games.
“We just gotta keep working to get better, that’s all we can do,” Bowman said.
The Colonials will try and change their fortune next week on the road against Red Lion.
The Panthers, on the other hand, move to 4-2 on the year and hit the road again next week against Spring Grove.
