Two teams going in different directions from last season met at Musselman Stadium on Monday night.

York Tech continued its 2016 resurgence with a 44-34 win over a Biglerville team has taken a step back from last year.

It was the Smallwood brothers show for Tech, as younger brother Tyrese ran for 127 yards and two scores, and older brother Josiah ran for one and threw for two. Tyrese added a two-point conversion run and two two-point throws.

Tech is now 3-2 on the year.

"I can't explain it. It's fun. I don't like losing," Tyrese Smallwood said of the feel in the team's huddle after the game.

Biglerville (0-5, 0-2 YAIAA division II) got off to a hot start.

An 8-play 54 yard drive was capped by a play-action touchdown pass from Derek Tosten to Nevada Day from 7-yards out. The extra point kick was low and blocked.

Offense hasn't been the problem for the Canners this year.

However, when the defense took the field, the same problems from the first four games arose.

York Tech tied the game one minute later on a 46-yard slant and run by Jordan Ray.

"We're just not consistent enough," Biglerville head coach Alex Ramos said. "At times we tackle well, and at times we don't. I think tonight was better than its been, but we're still going to have to get better."

After forcing a punt on the first series of the game, the Canners were shredded for 379 yards and six scores.

Biglerville marched down the field and scored on a whirling 1-yard run to the right on the second play of the second quarter.

The Canners' 12-8 lead lasted until Josiah Smallwood and Ray hooked up on a 22-yard slant and run for a touchdown on the next possession.

Tyrese Smallwood completed the first of two halfback-option-reverse passes on the two-point try to make it 16-12.

Trailing 22-12 just before half, Biglerville faced third-and-goal from the 4-yard line. Hunter Getz took the handoff and fought for the goal line before being dragged to his having at the one.

He reached the ball out as he went down and it came loose.

Despite appearing like he might be down, the officials ruled a fumble, and York Tech recovered in the end zone.

Chris Weaver intercepted Josiah Smallwood two plays later, but Tosten returned the favor, throwing the ball up for grabs at the goal line to York Tech's Terence Romey.

A punt-fest started the third quarter, but on the fourth possession of the quarter, Tyrese Smallwood ripped off a 58-yard run down the visiting sideline to put the Spartan up 30-12.

Jadon Stough cut the lead to 10 when he caught a 10-yard pass from Tosten and made a man miss inside the 40 on the way to a 51-yard touchdown with 9:22 left in the fourth.

However, Tyrese Smallwood put the game away three plays later with a 60-yard touchdown.

Josiah Smallwood widened the deficit with an interception that set up his own 10-yard rushing touchdown just minutes later.
