The York Suburban football team cruised to its first YAIAA Division II win Friday night as the hosts celebrated homecoming by stomping Kennard-Dale, 42-6.
Suburban (2-2, 1-0) used four first-quarter scores to put the game out of reach early. The Trojans showed balance: Five players found the end zone on Suburban's first five possessions in the first half.
“It’s kind of a crazy week just because of all of the activities going on after school and at night,” Suburban coach Andy Loucks said. “I thought they did a good job of staying focused and doing a good job in practice. We executed on both sides of the ball, and they did a fantastic job.”
Janner Torres and Teague Hoffman both posted 2-yard touchdown runs in the first 6:22 of the game before senior quarterback Ben Igo found Zach Weinstein from 31 yards out for a 20-0 lead.
“We just want to be able to mix it up — both run and pass. Feed off of each other, to be able to mix and match is what we want to be able to do as an offense,” Loucks said.
Seniors Jadon Haynes and Colin Deardorff also added first-half touchdowns before Hoffman closed out the Trojan scoring with another score in the third quarter.
Deardorff finished with three catches for 45 yards.
Loucks attributes his team’s commitment to winning to the tradition of the program and its past players.
“(The seniors are) all committed to being successful, and that’s a carryover effect from the group of guys that just left (last year). I see it building now as an expectation for the program,” Loucks said.
Hoffman, a senior, led all rushers on the night with 80 yards on 10 carries.
“It was just clicking tonight. It felt great,” said Hoffman. “We just gotta keep winning.”
Freshman Wyatt McCleary provided the only score of the night for Kennard-Dale (0-4, 0-1). McCleary rushed 18 times for 64 yards. Dalton Stike added 37 yards on seven carries for the Rams.
