William Penn falls to Cedar Crest's air attack

William Penn expected a tough game against Cedar Cliff on Friday, and that’s what the Bearcats got in their 61-21 road loss to the Colts at West Shore Stadium on Friday night.

Colts quarterback Grant Breneman threw five touchdown passes in the victory.

After Cedar Cliff took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, the Bearcats answered back to even the game back up. An interception returned for the touchdown in the second quarter by the Colts put them back in front and a dropped William Penn touchdown pass began the unraveling of things for the Bearcats.

“We dropped probably six or seven passes tonight,” William Penn coach Russ Stoner said. “Early on if we execute that piece offensively, we’re going to be in a whole heck of a lot better shape. Defensively in the first half they rushed for 39 yards.”

Breneman led an air attack that quickly put the game out of reach for William Penn. Despite the lopsided defeat, Stoner is excited about the progress his team made on Friday and through the first three weeks of the season.

“We got better tonight even though the score was 61-21,” Stoner said. “Our kids never stopped playing… Our quarterback was really pretty good tonight. He threw some balls (that) would rival the Breneman kid from Cedar Cliff, so we’re not panicking.”
