Eastern York won't bring back football coach

After two seasons at the helm, Dave Kemmick will not return to the Eastern York football sidelines in 2016. The school's administration let Kemmick know about their decision about two weeks ago, he said.

"They're looking for someone new," Kemmick said.

Kemmick confirmed it was not his decision to leave the program. Eastern York athletic director Don Knaub did not immediately return messages seeking comment.

Kemmick leaves the program after two seasons, with a winning record (11-10). Eastern York's seven wins in 2014 was the most for the program since Eastern won eight games in 2002. His 2014 team became just the program's second squad to qualify for the District 3 playoffs and the first since future NFL fullback Jon Witman played for the Knights in 1990.

The Knights lost a number of key seniors to graduation and went 4-6 in 2015 despite injuries to a handful of starters.

Kemmick expects to take some time before deciding if and when he wants to return to coaching.

"They caught me a little bit by surprise," he said. "I thought the program was headed in the right direction."

The Eastern York school district posted the head coaching job online as available for applicants for the 2016-2017 football season.

With Kemmick's departure, Eastern joins New Oxford, William Penn, Kennard-Dale and York County Tech on the list of YAIAA teams looking for a new head coach. This is the 13th football coaching job to open up in the YAIAA over the last two seasons.
