Kennard-Dale drops heartbreaker to Millersburg

Kennard-Dale's Chase Carlile ran for a 55-yard touchdown just 49 seconds into Friday's football game at Millersburg, but that's the last time the Rams would score in a 7-6 loss to the Indians.

After the quick score, the Tri-Valley League's Indians traded possessions with the Rams throughout the first half, and Kennard-Dale took a 6-0 lead into halftime.

Millersburg's Tylor Erdman scored from 19 yards out early in the third quarter to put the hosts up by a point, and that score held until the final gun.

The Rams (3-7, 2-4 YAIAA Division II) had a chance down the stretch, but Cole Mike intercepted the ball in the end zone with two minutes to play to preserve the victory.

Turnovers doomed the Rams, who threw two interceptions and fumbled the ball once. The Indians turned it over just once on an interception.

Carlile finished the day with 15 carries for 137 yards, eclipsing 1,000 yards for the season. The Rams held a 281-249 margin in total yards.

Erdman led the Indians with 136 yards on 17 carries as Millersburg likely wrapped up a spot in the District 3 playoffs. The Indians entered Friday's game in the fourth and final playoff spot in Class A.
