Central York piles up points against William Penn
After two long successful drives to open the game on Friday night, the Central York football team would keep piling the points on the scoreboard the rest of the game. However, they would come via explosive plays.
The Panthers scored 21 points alone in the second quarter of their 42-0 victory against William Penn.
"I was pleased with our execution," Panthers head coach Brad Livingston said. "We knew York would play hard. York has a lot of pride. We prepared really well, and the kids executed the game plan well. We got a few big plays, and we were able to put some points up early."
Following the game as the teams went through the customary handshake line, the squads needed to be separated. It was a frustrating season for both squads, which ended on a high note for the Panthers (3-7, 2-5 Division I).
"We've had positives throughout the year," Livingston said. "The kids have been working hard. I did think we would be a little bit better of a football team than we were record-wise, but I'm proud of them for coming in here and finishing the season on a high note."
Panthers quarterback Nik Strine had a big game, throwing for 236 yards and two passing touchdowns. The senior also scored a rushing touchdown in the first quarter.
Strine's passing touchdowns both occurred in the second quarter and both went to Brandon Falkenstein for 83 and 66 yards, respectively.
Central also received an explosive defensive play as time expired in the first half. Drew Anderson returned an interception 98 yards for a touchdown. Following the extra point, the visitors led 35-0 at halftime.
William Penn (0-10, 0-7) was led by Nykam Beverly's 156 yards on 12 carries.
For the season, the Bearcats scored just 74 points and were shutout four times.
