Both Central York and New Oxford entered Friday's game having some eerily similar statistics.

Both came in riding four-game losing streaks after beating a division champion from last season in the opening week.

Central had scored 65 points for the season and New Oxford came in with 64 .

Central York's special teams and defense rose to the occasion to bring the home team's losing streak to an end in a 38-19 victory.

"It's just going to be a work in progress all year," Central head coach Brad Livingston said. "There are times we looked pretty good, and then there are times not so much."

The Panthers (2-4, 1-2 Division I) caused a New Oxford (1-5, 0-3) miscue on a punt attempt in the first quarter and Noreaga Goff returned a punt 58 yards for a touchdown with 11:45 to play in the game.

"We didn't put any more emphasis than normal (on special teams this week)," Livingston said. "We knew that we wanted to pressure the punt most of the time."

The Panthers defense posted their lowest point total allowed so far this year, and it forced three fumbles, one of which was returned for a touchdown by Lionel Edoukou with 3:00 to play in the game. Edoukou finished with two recovered fumbles.

"We finally got some turnovers and gave our offense some good field position, and it makes the game a lot easier," Livingston said.

Central scored in every quarter, including 21 points in the fourth quarter. Shyheim Goff scored twice and finished with 118 yards on 18 carries.

Carter Luckenbaugh drilled all five extra-point attempts and hit a 40-yard field goal.

All of New Oxford's points came through the air.

Corban Czap found Trevon Brown (three receptions, 111 yards) twice for scores from 44 and 53 yards out. The game ended on a touchdown pass by Tanner Miller to Owen Buhr.

Central capitalized on a pair of New Oxford miscues to score its first-half points and led 14-6 at halftime.

Following a failed punt attempt in which Colonials punter Ben Rivera was taken down for a 6-yard loss, the Panthers went 32 yards in four plays with Goff scoring from 4 yards out with 2:39 left in the first quarter.

Central's defense set up the Panthers second score when they picked up a fumble by Czap at the Colonials' 33-yard line and returned it to the 1-yard line.

On the play, Central's Brennden Jenkins picked up the ball and ran towards the end zone, but he was stripped and Edoukou corralled it at the 1-yard line.

The Panthers scored on the next play from a yard out on Elzir Stroman's plunge off left tackle.
