Standing water on field forces postponement of Central York-South Western game

Heavy rains forced South Western High School officials to postpone Friday's scheduled home football game against Central York.

The game will now be played at 5 p.m. Monday, according to South Western coach Damian Poalucci. He said the decision to postpone the game came around 2:30 p.m. when athletic director Don Seidenstricker encountered standing water on the Mustangs' grass field.

"We practiced on it last night and it wasn't that bad," Poalucci said. " Don and I walked out around 1 o'clock and it was about the same as yesterday, even though we had a lot of rain. He came back in around 2:30 and said there was a lot of standing water on the field, so he made the decision to cancel it."

As of 3:30 p.m., the weather.com forecast for Hanover projects showers to continue Saturday but not continue into Sunday and Monday.

South Western, which typically does not practice on the weekends, will practice Friday and likely once during the weekend, Poalucci said.

"We just have to have that mindset of, we have to reset, we have to handle adversity," he said. "We talk to the kids about that all the time. The adversity happened and you just have to be strong enough to take it and go on from it."
