Dallastown piles up yards on the ground to remain undefeated

To say Dallastown used its running game to win Friday evening's YAIAA Division I football game with William Penn would be pretty accurate.

The Wildcats amassed 231 yards of offense — all on the ground — and four different players ran for scores during its 50-14 win against William Penn at Small Athletic Field.

"We'll take it for what it is," said Dallastown coach Kevin Myers. "We came out very focused and didn't look ahead. Pretty pleased with our effort overall."

Dallastown (5-0, 2-0 Division I) jumped out to a 20-0 lead after one quarter behind two touchdowns from junior running back Dillon Callahan and a 3-yard keeper from senior quarterback Cade Gold.

Gold only attempted three passes in the game, all coming during the second possession of the second quarter and led to a three-and-out and the Wildcats lone punt of the game.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound Callahan scored on runs of 43 and 20 yards in the first quarter and added a 1-yard score midway through the second quarter as the Wildcats went ahead 44-0 by halftime. Callahan finished with a game-high 88 yards on six first-half carries.

"Pretty much the whole second half we had some younger kids in and seniors that don't see the field too often," Myers said. "I was pleased we were able to get them some reps in this one."

Senior Jack Marks added touchdown runs of 12 and 4 yards in the second quarter. Running back Edgar Centeno scored on a 3-yard touchdown run to end Dallastown's scoring at the end of the third quarter.

William Penn (0-5, 0-2 Division I) struggled in the first half, amassing negative-14 yards of offense, but put up 147 yards of offense in the second half behind quarterback Angel Dejesus and running back Khalid Dorsey.

"(William Penn) played with a lot of heart," Myers said. "I know they were missing a few people. They are playing hard. Tough year right now for them."

The 5-foot-4, 166-pound Dejesus completed 2-of-7 second-half passes for 46 yards, including a 33-yard scoring strike to junior wide receiver Cameron Nyholm late in the fourth quarter. He also scrambled for a 35-yard run two plays before the touchdown.

Dorsey, a 5-10, 148-pound sophomore, broke free down the Dallastown sideline on the first play of the fourth quarter for a 63-yard touchdown jaunt. He finished with a team-high 71 yards rushing.

"We played a bit better in the second half," William Penn coach Shawn Heinold said. "We had some starters out for disciplinary reasons, and our best lineman (Ja'Dontay Beatty) is out because of injury, and we don't know if or when we may get him back. But we played hard and didn't give up."
