Fairfield fizzles in weather-shortened loss to Newport

NEWPORT 42, FAIRFIELD 0 >> Dalton Klinger scampered for two touchdowns and caught a pass for one as well as Newport cruised to the road win. The weather-shortened game was called with 4:35 left in the second quarter.

"We obviously made a lot of mistakes, but honestly that's just a pretty darn good football team," Fairfield head coach Darwin Seiler said.

The Green Knights struggled to manage any sort of offensive production as they were held to just 73 total yards, while giving up 219 yards to their opponent.

There were a couple of bright spots for Fairfield to build on as the Knights got solid rushing performances from Charlie Burnett (28 yards) and Tyler Karsteter (31).

"We got a couple of good runs from Burnett tonight," said Seiler. "Karsteter had a couple of big runs too."
