Boiling Springs bowls over Littlestown

BOILING SPRINGS >> Littlestown struggled through one of their worst football seasons last year and Friday night's 2015 opener wasn't much better. The Thunderbolts struggled to run the ball and dropped a 35-0 decision at Boiling Springs.

Bryan Malone scored twice in the opening quarter and tallied 125 yards as the Bubblers took a 14-0 halftime lead. The Bubblers were able to total almost 300 yards of offense in the half but fumbled the ball five times. Only one of those fumbles was lost however — with the team driving in the first quarter threatening to go ahead 14-0.

Later in the first quarter, a 20-yard run by Malone gave the Bubblers a 14-0 advantage before Malone struck paydirt in the second half. Malone scored on runs of 88 yards and 26 yards in the third quarter, and finished the game with 277 yards on 18 carries. Adam Morrow carried six times for 32 yards and also had a 9-yard scoring run of his own.

Littlestown was led by quarterback Cody Boyd who completed 7 of 21 passes for 55 yards, but had two passes picked off and was sacked three times. Littlestown ran 11 times for minus-11 yards in the opening half.

"We have a lot of work to do — we couldn't run the ball or hit open receivers," said Littlestown coach Mike Lippy. "It is going to be a long weekend for players and coaches but the sun comes up tomorrow as a new day. Give credit to them — they beat us at the line and that back was pretty good."

"We talked at the half about having stats, but it doesn't always mean anything....you need points from those stats," said Bubblers coach Nate Freier. "We came out and put the points up in the second half. Bryan (Malone) and quarterback Hunter Breon are good athletes and they made some things happen tonight. I am very proud of our effort but we have some work to do."
