Jason Warner taking over as New Oxford interim football coach

Jason Warner will coach the New Oxford football team on an interim basis, Conewago Valley School District Superintendent Russell Greenholt announced in an email Wednesday to players, parents and coaches.

Warner, who was previously an assistant football coach and is the school's track and field coach, has been a teacher and coach at New Oxford since 2004. He replaces Jason Thurston, who resigned June 11 after three seasons as coach.

"I'm very ecstatic," senior offensive lineman Brock Hartman said. "I hate that this whole situation happened in the first place, but if we couldn't have Coach Thurston I'm happy we have Jason Warner. He's a smart guy and one of my personal favorite teachers at the school. I'm happy we took the interim coach route. The last thing we needed as a team was a whole new guy to get acclimated to in what little time we have left."

Greenholt's email stated Warner plans to make first contact with the team and parents at a Monday, July 6 meeting. The email describes that date as "tentative" and added that Warner will send more information.

Warner did not return calls on Wednesday night. The email indicated he is on vacation with his family and will return next Wednesday.

The Colonials open the season Sept. 4 with a road game at Bermudian Springs.
